Overview
The Director's Role for Health and Safety (DRHS) is a one-day interactive course that has been designed for company directors and senior managers active in a health and safety strategic role in the built environment, with the aim of recognising directors’ duties of care and the implications of non-compliance with health and safety legislation.

The course empowers directors to grasp the costs of boardroom decisions, manage risks strategically, acknowledge consequences of ineffective health and safety management, value competent duty holders, appoint reliable assistance, and foster a proactive safety culture.
Who is it for?
The CITB director’s role for health and safety course is for delegates who have signed up for a trainer-led Director’s Role for Health and Safety (DRHS) – this includes both classroom and remotely delivered courses.
Anyone holding the positions of (not limited to) Financial/Operations Director, Senior Quantity Surveyor (QS), Private QS, Principal Designer, Senior/Principal Engineer, Company Secretary, Contracts Manager, Senior Project Manager, or Non-Executive Director can enroll in the course.
Course
What does it cover?
This pre-requisite eLearning focusses on leadership and worker engagement, and health and safety law.
The eLearning looks at the following topics:
- The cost and impacts of accidents in the workplace
- Health and safety law
- Absolute, practicable and reasonably practicable duties
- Advice and guidance available for directors and senior managers
- The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
- The laws and regulations associated with the Health and Safety Act
- Putting the above into practice in a working environment
Its completion ensures all delegates start with a minimum level of understanding.
What are the benefits of learning online?

Exam
What qualification will I get?
Successful completion of DRHS requires a delegate to:
- Complete the eLearning
- Pass the end of eLearning assessment
- Attend the trainer-led course
- Pass the trainer review
- Pass the end of course assessment.
What does the end of eLearning examination involve?
The online assessment consists of 10 multiple choice questions with a total score of 10 (each question is worth 1 mark). You must obtain a minimum 80% to pass, You have 15 minutes to complete the assessment and have unlimited attempts to do so.
